Sustainable Smoothie (part 3)
2 Smoothie Recipes
Well, here are my “secret” smoothie recipes. The first one is what we have been doing until recently. It has some major issues in regards to sustainability. For example the banana and orange are not grown here but transported from far. And then the special ingredients are not grown here either and besides the flax seed, couldn’t be grown here.
The second one has also the green super food in it. It is not locally from here, but could be replaced with some green kale, cucumber, spinach, etc. During the winter, which is cold and snowy here, we will test if the frozen plums and pears work. I’ll report on that sometime later.
These are simple recipes, they taste amazing! Amounts are for two
Not so Green
1 orange (peeled, slices)
1 apple (no seeds, cut in pieces)
1 banana (cut in pieces)
1 tbsp. flax seed
1 tbsp. lecithin
1 tbsp. green super food
8 oz water
All ingredients organically grown and harvested, but transported over long distances, handled and stored. Growers/harvesters compensation often very low.
Much more Green
5 plums
2 pears
1 tbsp. flax seed oil
1 tbsp. green super food
8 oz water
All ingredients organically and sustainable grown, harvested, transported, handled and very fresh. Growers/harvesters fairly compensated. Actually all is locally harvested from our garden by ourselves, except for the flax seed oil, which could be grown here, though.
